Finish-Along Q1 2018
1 and 2. (Q1 2016) Mam and I need a bag to take our cutting boards and rulers to workshops. We don't usually go to the same one so we can easily share a bag rather than having one each. (I'm not quite sure why I've been landed with the job when she takes her board far more often and will probably use the bag much more!) We got this off-cut (with an extra 30% off) just before Christmas (2015) and I'm just going to make a simple bag (French seams, no lining, short handles) for the board (item 1) and then a padded pouch for the 24" x 8.5" ruler (item 2). I'll use the curtain fabric for the mat bag and the canvas for the ruler bag, unless there's more fabric in that bag than I think. (That's right, I haven't even opened the bag!)
5. (Q4 2015) This was going to become a table runner, but I've changed my mind and it's now going to become...wait for it...a pouch!
6. (Q1 2015) Oh, this poor quilt! It's been on several of my FAL lists and was, briefly, a finish. Then I realised that there was a problem with the quilting (the bobbin thread keeps snapping) and I've been meaning to replace the quilting. I've done one line (with different stitch length and tension from the first time) but, I'll be honest, it's mind-numbing work. I'm going to change my plan slightly and replace the lines where threads have snapped and then leave the rest but quilt in the ditch of all the sashing strips. That should be enough to stop the bias stretch on the quilt, which, I think, is exacerbating the problem with the quilting. If it doesn't, I might quilt in the ditch round the grey block borders. I have to be careful not to add too much quilting as it's already bound but I'm hoping I'll get away with it...
7. (Q1 2016) These are the last remnants of the grey and yellow fabric that Mam bought to make her sewing machine cover and I'm hoping to cobble something together to use them all up. Two pieces have wadding fused to the back (the result of a miscalculation) and I'm planning to make a storage basket with these last oddly-sized bits.
8. (Q1 2016) At the end of last year, Hadley had a 'win my WIP' giveaway in order to
9. (Q2 2016) I have been planning this quilt since at least 2013 and would like to at least make a start on prepping blocks. (I've been saying that for a while...) I have a range of backgrounds and can't decide whether to go scrappy or not (which is why I have quite a lot of some of them) and some gorgeous Oakshott (Scandinavian, I think). The block pattern is in the photo and I've already completed a test block. (See the fabrics third and fourth down from the stack of grey/white background fabrics? They're supposed to be the same colour...)
10. (Q2 2016) If I don't get the pointy points quilt started, it would be nice to make progress on my ET quilt instead. I have two blocks pieced and pieces cut for more blocks (but not enough background to make a whole block). One more completed block would be nice!
11. (Q3 2016) I need to turn this piece of embroidered ticking into a pouch (with detachable strap) for my ipod.
12. (Q3 2016) I started a bag for me last year, but have changed my mind about the fabric, so am now using this:
13. (Q4 2016) I'm going to turn this pink pin cord into a round neck pinafore version of the Kate dress:
14. (Q4 2016) This black and white lawn is going to be a Kate dress
15. (Q4 2016) This rather 80s winter sports print (it really could be from then as it came out of someone's loft!) is going to become a version of the Kate dress, possibly with a v neck and long/elbow length sleeves.
16. (Q4 2016) I started these jama bottoms in 2013 - they're made from an old quilt cover.
17. (Q4 2016) I'm going to make another pair of jama bottoms from this rather snazzy fabric, which I think my mam bought my brother in the early 90s when he made himself a few cushions for his room.
18. (Q4 2016) A friend bought me this lovely fabric to make a drawstring bag for my knitting.
19. (Q1 2017) I need to make a business card holder for my sister-in-law, who makes the most wonderful wedding stationery. These are her new cards, and the fabric is a table runner she used to have out at Christmas but which has wax splodges on it. If this fabric isn't suitable for all of it (need to work out how to stabilise a press stud or some sort of fastening), then I'll try to use a bit of it as a feature strip.
20 and 21. (Q2 2017) The middle fabric in this pile is going to become my second Everyday Blouse, and the top fabric is going to become a Kate dress:
22. (Started around October 2012) This is another project that I won't get finished this quarter (or next!), but I want it back on my list. Next step is to cut the pieces for the nine patches which will alternate with the embroidered blocks. (I may even finish writing the stories behind the blocks, you never know!)
23. (Q2 2017) I want to make a Christmas quilt (yes, another one!) from these pieces of Winterkist. I'm going to make a version of Sarah's Stained quilt, with navy sashing (thanks, Salley!):
25. (Q2 2017) This gorgeous Sevenberry cotton/linen mix is going to become a Kate dress (with the crochet trim round the hem):
26. (Q2 2017) I'm making a mini quilt for a friend and am keeping the details a surprise. The block(s) will be from page 226 of the book and I'm making them the same size as the template, rather than enlarging it. I'll be making a few of the blocks, I'm not saying how many!
27. (Q2 2017) This will become rabbit for a friend's daughter (pattern is Clover by Jodie Carleton):
28 and 29. (Q3 2017) Mam has asked me to finish off these two cushions for her:
30. (Q4 2017) I need something to hold some documents which live in my handbag and I'm going to use this gorgeous batik (and some heavyweight interfacing) to make a fabric envelope for them to replace the torn paper envelope they came in.
31. (Q4 2017) The pinafore I made last year needs a lining (it needs a slip under it, but the armholes are too low for the slips I have, so a lining it is):
32. (Q4 2017) I want to make a (giant) cushion using this lovely snowman fabric which was given to me by Jennie, and I'm going to use the same technique as I did for the penguin cushion I made last year.
33, 34, 35, and 36. (Q1 2018) Socks:
42 and 43. (Q1 2018) Socks (yarn is yet to arrive, so I can't take a photo of it, but I'll be knitting yet another two pairs of plain stocking stitch socks)
And, once again, I've retained my membership of the #ridiculouslylongFALlist gang this quarter! Now there's a surprise! In fact, I think I've got one more project on it than last quarter, despite finishing nine last quarter and officially abandoning another...
I wonder whether Jennie's Threads has beaten me in the ridiculousness stakes?
Mini Archie is on hand to make sure I stick to the straight and narrow:
Good luck! You have so many fun projects to chose from -- that is a definite benefit to a long list.
ReplyDeleteHonestly you and I have about the same length list, I just don't have the stamina to make my long list every time, hence why I only choose 4-6 each time. LOL Lots of lovely projects and I know you can finish up at least a few of these. Thanks so much for linking up on behalf of the 2018 global Finish-A-Long hosts and thanks for playing along again this year.
ReplyDeleteMy kind of woman! Lots of terrific projects. I really love these finishing challenges to help me zero in on specific choices from my list to get them completed. But it's also good to be able to switch to another one when something starts feeling opressive. Do you know about the 18 in 2018 linkups at What a Hoot Quilts? You might like that one. It complements this one well, as it's open all the time so we can share each item we mark off our list as we accomplish it. Then I just link all those up at the Q1 end-quarter linkups. It helps me to share as I go while working on Q1s.
